Simple Space-Savers You Can Build Yourself

Sometimes the thing you want most out of your home is to have more space within it. But this can often seem like an impossibility, and it might appear to be the kind of thing a home either has or does not have. However, this is far from being the truth. The truth is that there are many things that anyone can do to improve the amount of space they have, and many of the best solutions are in fact also the simplest of all. In this post, we are going to look at some real space-saving things which you can create yourself, and which will drastically improve the amount of space you have to work with in your home.

Bookshelves

Every home needs a good bookshelf, and it’s not just necessarily for books. The truth is that bookshelves can be used for a huge variety of things, and if you place it in a room which is starting to get a little crowded, then it can really make a huge difference to how much space there is. Fortunately, a bookshelf is also easy enough to put together, even if your DIY capabilities are not that strong. With only a few pieces of wood, a couple of glue dispensers and some patience, anyone can knock up a relatively effective, cheap but cheerful bookshelf. This is worth doing if you really want to create some more space in your home fast.

Bed

Under the bed is one of the best possible locations for saving space, and it’s one that is routinely overlooked by many people. If your bed is not designed so that you can store things under there, you might want to change that. As it happens, this amounts to a relatively simple DIY project which most people should be fairly capable of. To begin with, you will need to build a sturdy bed frame. This can be done easily using either a pre-packaged wooden set or any other of your choice. Then you just need to be sure to keep the centre area clear, and have the bed operate on a hinge at the end. With this simple solution, you can lift your bed to reveal a fantastic space for storing anything you like.

Under The Stairs

Any home that has an under the stairs area will have a fantastic opportunity for space-saving. If you don’t feel that you are currently making good use of this area, then you can improve that situation in some simple and highly effective ways. For a start, you can in-build some shelving into the space itself, something which is both incredibly simple to do and hugely effective. You can also consider extending this area slightly, as long as the structure of your house makes it possible. In this way, you can expect to be able to store much more under there, and for it to be more accessible as well. This is a great example of how you can save space with a few simple changes, and it’s worth trying in your home.
