How To Know if a Property You’re Viewing is Infested with Pests

from here
If you want to find out if a property that you are looking at has an infestation or if you want to do everything you can to make sure that you are making a good, high-quality investment then there are a couple of things that you can do about this. Pests are very stealthy and it can often be hard to identify the signs of them unless you know exactly what you’re looking for.

Grease and Grime

When looking around a house, you need to make sure that you look high and low. You’ll want to look along the edges of the walls, near any window frames and you’ll also want to look out for crumbs as well. Grease stains are also big warning signs that the house you’re looking at could have an infestation as well. When looking for grease stains, look along the lower side of the wall, and if there is dust, look out for trails. It is always better to be safe than sorry, and if you keep an eye out, you can be sure to protect yourself against any future problems.

Insect and Rodent Droppings

Pests don’t have good hygiene at all, and there is a reason why they are called pests. They are not fun to have around at all and they do tend to leave droppings behind everywhere they go. There are various types of droppings that you should be looking out for, rodent droppings for example tend to be conical and solid, or even spindly. They may not look like anything to the untrained eye. Insect droppings from termites are much smaller and it can be hard to look out for this, but if you see a lot of spider webs then this could be a sign that there is an infestation. The common household does have the occasional spider web, but if you see a large amount of them throughout the home, this is something that you should look out for.

Smells

Pests are well-known for producing a large variety of different smells and scents. If you smell rotting food then this is because the bugs have carried it into a secluded place and then not finished it. The food then begins to break down and rot, so if you smell off-fruit or old food then this could be another warning sign. Pests can also chew through food packaging and cause other foul odours, so if you know that there is a scent that you just can’t place or if you suspect that there is an infestation and there is an odd, accompanying smell then this is a clear sign.

So when you’re looking at properties, it is always a good idea for you to keep an eye out for any signs of a pest infestation, because if you don’t then you could open yourself up for a world of trouble at a later date and you may even find that the property damage is far more extensive than you first anticipated.

Ieva
