style yourself happy: nailing that casual look this autumn

After what feels like forever I'm sitting at the keyboard and typing this down. A broader explanation of my absence will come, but for now just know that being away from blogging has been hard for me because it's one of the things that I really enjoy doing without ever feeling pressure or stressed. This is my safe haven, my happy place, the place where I can let go of everything that bothers me and makes me unhappy. So how and why would I fall into this pit of no-blogging, I'll tell you later, but now... autumn is on our doorsteps and we have to embrace it with our looks!

Feeling good is all about looking good because when you look good, you feel good. Of all the areas of style that we tend to struggle with, nailing that casual look without appearing messy is one of the most complex.

The fact is that casual wear isn’t about rolling up to a coffee date with the girls in sweats and an oversized tee or skinny jeans and a hoodie; it’s about creating smart, stylish looks with a relaxed and casual vibe to them.

Not sure how to dress in a casual but smart and stylish way? Below are four casual looks that are perfect for almost any occasion. They are simple and easy to customise, so are ideal as you can tailor them to fit your personal sense of style.

cas fash.jpg

Casual Look 1: Ripped jeans, tucked in tee & oversized cardigan

The foundation of casual style is finding that perfect outfit combination that’s stylish and of course, comfortable. A perfect example of this kind of look is the combo of high-waisted, ripped jeans (black or blue denim), a tucked in tee and an oversized cardigan. Stripes are really in this season, so a nautical striped tee in black, red or blue could be ideal. For the cardigan, opt for a design that’s made of a chunky knit to add to the coziness and comfort of the look. As for shoes, pick a pair of flats, either ballet flats, espadrilles or pumps.

Casual Look 2: High waisted denim skirt, slogan tee, and leather jacket

For a more chic take on casual style, pair a high-waisted denim skirt with a tucked in slogan tee, and a leather jacket. This look says cool, stylish, and elegant. If the weather's a little cold, add a pair of knitted tights to the look - gray or navy knitted tights, depending on the color of your tee, could work well.

denim jack.jpg

Casual Look 3: Cut off jeans, 3/4 sleeve striped top, & oversized denim jacket

What about casual style for those slightly warmer days? For warmer autumn days, a pair of cut off super skinny jeans in black, teamed with a 3/4 sleeved striped top tucked in, and topped with an oversized denim jacket can work well. Team this look with a pair of ballet pumps or a pair of trainers, such as Converse or Adidas trainers, which you can browse the different styles of here. Top off the look with designer sunglasses (or faux designer) and a satchel-style bag.

Casual Look 4: Denim pinafore dress and tee

Pinafore dresses have become style statements this year, due to how versatile they are. For autumn and winter, teaming a denim pinafore with a 3/4 or long sleeved top can create the ideal casual look. It’s stylish, comfortable, and cute. Top with a chunky knit cardigan, add a pair of Converse, and a scarf, and you’ve got the ultimate AW17 outfit - cool, sophisticated and wonderfully comfortable.

There you have it, a few casual looks that make nailing that casual look this autumn much easier. I know I'll try these looks this autumn, and you?
